What else do you want to know?

Why work for KG Adventure?

We have been one of the largest established outdoor activity providers in the UK for the past 25 years, earning a great reputation for being excellent employers who recruit and train top staff teams. We have staff returning to work for us year after year. Competition for our positions proves that these are sought after summer camp and extended season jobs!

Are we right for each other?

Working for us isn’t necessarily about qualifications or even experience (although that is a bonus). It is more about you having the right passion, motivation, confidence, and determination to do this type of work. If you are looking for a relaxed, sociable but professional working environment, then we are the company you want to work for.

How much will I get paid?

The amount you will get paid depends on length of employment, experience and qualifications.

How do I apply?

What happens next?

Knowing how you go about getting one of these dream jobs is important. We have tried to keep the route to getting a job as straight forward and efficient as possible. Here are 5 easy steps to recruitment:

1. Apply online
2. Successful applicants attend a selection day, which involves activities and having what most describe as a ‘fun day’!
3. We decide if we are right for each other!
4. Job offer is made if you have proved to be an all-star applicant!
5. Attend training

We will of course guide you through the whole process so nothing is missed and you get the opportunity to prove to us how great you are.

Why do you do security checks?

As all our jobs involve working in close proximity to children, teenagers, and other adults, we take every measure to ensure that all are protected from harm. We ensure that a company specific Enhanced Criminal Record Bureau check is completed, as well as a minimum of two references including former employer/school/college/university. We also complete a List 99 Check (a register of men and woman who are barred from working with children by the DfSE). These initial checks are supported by the working practices we apply to all employees to ensure continued protection.

What training do I get?

We aim to provide on-going training and development to our extended season and short season staff. This training will comprise of either 'in-house' courses or National Governing Body Awards in areas such as 'First Aid at Work', 'Child Protection', among many other coaching qualifications.

As well as the standard induction training that all activity employees will receive, staff are also provided with the opportunity to take part in 'in-house' courses, these are organised, delivered and assessed by senior KG Adventure staff and are offered free of charge. If you are enrolled on a training course that involves a National Governing Body Award, then you will be required to sign a training course agreement. As part of this agreement KG Adventure will cover the costs of training on the proviso that you complete your contract of employment with us. If your contract is not fulfilled then you will be expected to pay for any costs incurred.

Do I have to attend the training?

Yes! There is always something new to learn! Training is an essential part of the job and brings even experienced staff up to speed on how we do things. Unfortunately if you can’t make the relevant training period then we may not be able to offer employment.

The main induction periods are:
Mid to end of February for Long Season (two weeks)
End of June to beginning of July for summer (one week)

What are the hours?

Most positions are based on either a six day week of 42 hours (or 48 hours should you choose to opt out of the 'working time directive'). Due to the nature of the work there is no such thing as a 'normal' 9-5 day, so a flexible approach is required.

Residential Options

For those working at our residential camps food and accommodation can be provided for those wishing to live on site; to do so will cost £98.00 per week and will be deducted from the wages that you will receive on the last working day of the month. On a whole most of our employees choose to live on-site for reasons of convenience as well as necessity, plus in doing so it tends to create a better social atmosphere among the staff team. With this said, it is perfectly acceptable to commute to work on a daily basis should you so choose.

Is it hard work?

This is certainly a job where the more you put in, the more you get out of it. If you are staying on site you have to be OK with seeing and being involved with the children and teenagers non-stop, even if you are not on programme. It is full on and energetic work so you need to make sure this is the sort of environment that appeals.

What else do I get?

Apart from the experiences and the pay there are many benefits we can offer including: access to activity equipment, supplier discounts, as well as specific discounted travel.

Do I have a choice of where I work?

We try to place staff at the centre they have a preference for but can’t always guarantee it. We ideally need staff at day camps to live locally as we can’t offer accommodation at all of those centres.

What can I do when I'm not working?

As we have such diverse teams with staff from all over the world, there are plenty of opportunities to socialise both in and out of work. We organise many staff social events and parties throughout the year, along with the social events that each centre organises themselves in agreement with the Centre Manager.

Do I have to work the whole of the summer season?

Due to how short the summer season is, we look for staff that can work the whole period, although we make exceptions e.g. graduations, weddings, etc. Let us know your availability and we can decide from there.

What if I want a more senior position?

KG Adventure promotes from within wherever possible as staff will have experience of the company, the centres and the responsibilities. However if you show us you have the ability to be involved from the start with more responsibility then we aren’t going to say no!
